About CRITA Journal

CRITA: Journal of Contemporary Approaches in Researching Indonesian Texts and Arts is an open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed international academic journal dedicated to the scholarly study of Indonesian texts, literature, narratives, oral traditions, performing arts, and visual arts. The journal also welcomes interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of humanities, cultural studies, and digital humanities.

Focus and Scope

CRITA publishes original research articles, review articles, and critical essays covering, but not limited to, the following thematic areas:

  • Indonesian literary texts: classical, modern, and contemporary literature
  • Narrative studies and textual criticism
  • Oral traditions, folklore, and intangible cultural heritage
  • Performing arts: wayang, ketoprak, drama, and traditional music
  • Visual arts and material culture in Indonesian context
  • Digital humanities and computational approaches to Indonesian texts
  • Postcolonial, gender, and cultural studies related to Indonesian arts and literature
  • Comparative literature: Indonesian literature in global context

Open Access Policy

CRITA provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to CRITA undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. Initially, the Editor-in-Chief evaluates submissions for scope and basic quality (desk review). Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two independent expert reviewers. The review process typically takes 4 to 8 weeks. Final decisions (Accept, Minor/Major Revision, or Reject) are made by the Editor-in-Chief based on reviewer recommendations.

Publication Frequency

CRITA is published biannually: June and December.

Plagiarism Policy

CRITA maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism and research misconduct. All submissions are screened using iThenticate/Turnitin before the peer review process. The maximum allowable similarity index is 20%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be returned to the authors without review.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

CRITA does not charge any submission fees. However, a publication fee (APC) may apply upon acceptance. Please refer to the Author Fees page for the latest information.
