Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The manuscript has been checked for plagiarism using a recognized tool (e.g., Turnitin or iThenticate), and the similarity index does not exceed 20%.
  • Authors confirm that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, including APA 7th edition formatting for references.

Author Guidelines

CRITA: Journal of Contemporary Approaches in Researching Indonesian Texts and Arts welcomes original research articles, review articles, and critical essays in the fields of Indonesian language, literature, linguistics, arts, and cultural studies. The following guidelines must be strictly followed.

TYPES OF MANUSCRIPTS
CRITA accepts: (1) Original Research Articles — reports of original empirical or theoretical research; (2) Review Articles — systematic or critical reviews of existing literature; (3) Critical Essays — scholarly discussion of current issues in the field.

LANGUAGE
Manuscripts may be submitted in English or Bahasa Indonesia. Authors submitting in Bahasa Indonesia are encouraged to ensure high-quality academic language. All manuscripts must include an abstract in both English and Bahasa Indonesia.

MANUSCRIPT LENGTH
Research articles: 5,000–8,000 words (excluding references). Review articles: 4,000–7,000 words. Footnotes/endnotes should be avoided; incorporate citations into the text.

STRUCTURE
Manuscripts should be structured as follows: (1) Title (concise, max. 15 words); (2) Author name(s) and affiliation(s) with ORCID; (3) Abstract (150–250 words in English and Bahasa Indonesia); (4) Keywords (4–6 keywords in English and Bahasa Indonesia); (5) Introduction; (6) Methods (if applicable); (7) Results and Discussion; (8) Conclusion; (9) Acknowledgements (if applicable); (10) References.

FORMATTING
Use 12pt Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing, A4 page size, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides. Do NOT format your document for two-column layout — this is handled by the editorial team.

CITATION STYLE
CRITA uses APA 7th Edition referencing style. In-text citations must follow the author-date format, e.g., (Smith, 2020, p. 45). All references cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and vice versa.

FIGURES AND TABLES
All figures and tables must be numbered consecutively and accompanied by a descriptive caption. Figures must be submitted at a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. Tables should be formatted with clear borders and centered text.

PLAGIARISM POLICY
All submitted manuscripts will be screened using similarity-detection software. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20% will be returned to the author for revision prior to further review. CRITA requires complete originality and proper attribution of all sources.

SUBMISSION PREPARATION CHECKLIST
Before submitting, ensure: (1) The manuscript has not been previously published and is not under review elsewhere; (2) The file is in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx); (3) All authors have been listed with their ORCID iDs, affiliations, and email addresses; (4) The manuscript follows the structure and formatting requirements above; (5) References are complete and follow APA 7th Edition style; (6) The manuscript has been checked for spelling, grammar, and clarity.

Review Articles

CRITA accepts systematic literature reviews and critical review articles that provide comprehensive analysis of existing scholarship in Indonesian texts, literature, arts, and cultural studies. Review articles should be 4,000-7,000 words and demonstrate original synthesis of existing literature.

Critical Essays

CRITA publishes critical essays that offer in-depth scholarly analysis, theoretical discussion, or critical commentary on issues in Indonesian texts, arts, culture, and literary studies. Essays should demonstrate originality of thought and scholarly rigor, 3,000-6,000 words.

The names, email addresses, institutional affiliations, and other personal information submitted to CRITA: Journal of Contemporary Approaches in Researching Indonesian Texts and Arts will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

CRITA is committed to protecting the privacy of all users of its website and is compliant with applicable data protection regulations. The journal collects only the minimum personal data necessary for its operation and will:

  • Use personal data solely for journal administration, peer review coordination, and publication processes
  • Not share personal data with third parties without the explicit consent of the data subject, except as required by law
  • Store personal data securely and protect it against unauthorized access
  • Allow users to update or delete their personal information upon request

Reviewer identities are kept strictly confidential throughout the double-blind peer review process. Author identities are similarly withheld from reviewers.
